 Thirty-Six Second Graders Visit Ag Department

 David City FFA & Agscience Courses Full of Activity
The David City FFA Chapter just completed an exciting week of celebrating National FFA Week! A variety of activities were conducted to celebrate FFA and agriculture.  Schuyler Ag Ed Students Test Their Skills
Students in the SCHS Ag Ed department tested their knowledge at District Ag Ed Career development Eventson Tuesday March 2nd at CCC Columbus Results included- Emvironthone team 4th place red Klay Kasik, AJ Parson, Ethan Bergt, Matt Brezina, and Chris Krupka. Schuyler FFA Members Recognized for Supervised Agriculture Experience Programs
The FFA recognized FFA members for their efforts in entrepreneurship and placement SAE programs. Students take risk, develop skills, and explore careers, keep records and apply in one of 49 proficiency areas. The applications are ranked gold – bronze at the district level with the top three district golds advancing to state. At the state level they are ranked again G- B. The top thee golds are interviewed at state during the state FFA convention which will be held April 8-9. The top three golds are competing for cash awards of $50. $100, and $250. — Full Story »

 The Sandy Creek FFA Chapter
In a short few months, the Sandy Creek FFA chapter has had some big accomplishments. In January chapter members participated in Leadership Skills Events. Seniors Ethan Lang and Brianna Schlick earned blue ribbons in Job Interview and freshman Kaydee Caldwell took first in Creed Speaking. Caldwell will compete at the FFA State Convention in hopes of qualifying for Nationals.

 Sutton FFA News
The Sutton FFA members are leading out loud this year through competitions, leadership training, and community service activities. On January 20th, 2010, nine members competed at the District VIII Leadership Skills contest. Holdrege FFA Spring Update
The third annual FFA Leadership Night was held January 19th in the Holdrege High School Cafeteria. Thirty-four FFA members along with numerous parents and guests were present for the ceremonies and Soup Supper sponsored by the Holdrege FFA Alumni Members. Holdrege FFA Labor Auction and Beef Barbecue
The 20th Annual Holdrege FFA Labor Auction will be held March 22nd at the Phelps County Ag Center. A Barbecue Beef Meal will be served starting at 6:30pm at a cost of $7 for adults and $4 for Children. The Labor Auction will start at 7:30 pm with Ron Pfeifer calling the auction. All Holdrege FFA members will be sold on the Auction for 4 hours of labor. If the buyers want the FFA member for 8 hours of labor then they can double their bid.  Superior Ag Education Students Compete in Natural Resources Competition
Thirty Superior High School Agriculture Education students competed in the Central Region Envirothon competition on February 15th. The competition was one of seven regionals held statewide for this natural resources education activity. The Central Region contest was conducted at College Park in Grand Island. The Central Platte and the Upper Blue NRD’s hosted the contest. The regional contest qualifies students for the state competition at the Alda Platte River site in May. State winners qualify to go the international competition in California this summer.

 Syngenta, Norder Supply Support FFA Program
Syngenta Crop Protection and Norder Supply Inc.in Bruning raised $5,000 to support future leaders in agriculture. The effort came through the FFA Blue Jacket Program, a unique collaboration between Syngenta and retail partners currently in its second year. — Full Story » |
 The Ravenna FFA Chapter
The Ravenna FFA Chapter competed at the District Leadership Skills event held at The Leadership Center in Aurora. Competing for Ravenna was Ag Demonstration team consisting of Alex Behrendt, Garrett Irvine & Mark Chramosta. Also a team in Ag Demonstration was Josh Boardman and Paul Bauer. Both Ag demonstration teams received blue ribbons. Members that gave a speech were Shelby Behrendt, Liz Deines, Tara Dethlefs, and Torri Dethlefs. Torri qualified for the state contest in Sr. Public Speaking with a first place finish.  Ag Olympics
On February 26, 2010, Red Cloud High school hosted their first ever “Ag Olympics” for their FFA week. The Olympics consisted of 4 events, The Tire Throw, Milking Contest, Feed Sack Race, and a 4x4 relay consisting of a football crawl, wheel barrel race, and finding the hardboiled egg. The teams for these Olympic events were randomly picked by each class going 7-12th and a faculty team. — Full Story » |
Superior FFA Wins District Proficiency Awards
Eighteen Superior FFA members competed in 18 District 8 FFA Proficiency Award areas this week. The district review committee met in Blue Hill and announced the results and sixteen members earned first place recognition.

 Farmers & Merchants Banquet
The Red Cloud FFA Chapter was asked by the Red Cloud Chamber of Commerce to serve food and drinks at the annual Farmers and Merchants Banquet. We had twelve FFA members help with this banquet. We served 170 people who attended this banquet. After we served we stayed to watch the entertainment and showed our appreciation to the businesses throughout our community.  FFA Members Apply for State Degree
Twelve senior members of the Superior FFA Chapter are applying for their Nebraska State FFA Degree this week. The state degree is the highest the Nebraska Association can bestow. Degree recipients will have the honor awarded on April 9th at Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln at the 82nd Annual Nebraska State FFA Convention.

 Shickley FFA Food and Coat-Boot Drive
The Shickley FFA completed our third annual Food and Coat-Boot drive for the Blue Valley Community Action group. We would like to thank everyone who donated food, coats and boots for our campaign.  Carleton Farmer is Fontanelle
A farmer from Carleton, Neb., was recently chosen the winner in Fontanelle's "Picture Your Success" drawing. Robert Zeleny received $1,000, and chose the Shickley FFA as the organization to receive an additional $1,000 donation from the company.

 National Convention
On Tuesday, October 20, a group of Red Cloud FFA students traveled on a bus to Indianapolis, Indiana. The students attending the Convention were Taylor Neiman, Shelby Peters, Taylor Goos, Jacob Nikodym, Anthony Weber, Toby Colvin, and Levi Vogler. The 14 hour drive was well worth the time they said.

 Johnson County Central FFA Chapter
The Johnson County Central FFA Chapter now has 40 members. The 2009-10 Chapter Officers consist of Tessa Wellsandt: President, Holly Weber: Vice-President, Josh Dieckgrafe: Secretary, Cody Miller: Treasurer, Clark Teten: Reporter, Doug Grotrian: Sentinel, and Tricia Lempka: Parliamentarian.
In August several FFA members show livestock at the Otoe County Fair. Exhibitors include Holly Weber, Lisa Niedermeyer, Tanya Gadeken, Kelly Rathbone, Amanda and Clark Teten, Mallory, Tricia and Jordon Lempka.

 Conestoga FFA Chapter
Murray, Ne - The Conestoga FFA powers through FFA week February 22-26. FFA members challenged themselves to design, coordinate, and implement activities that are fun and beneficial to member developed. Starting the week off FFA members, like Mason Jensen, created the largest FFA poster ever made by Conestoga. The poster stretched 30 feet by 9 feet tall and advertised all of the activities for the week. — Full Story » |
Norris FFA Chapter
The Norris FFA has been busy as usual with contests, degrees, and National FFA Week. All of the members have had a great opportunity to get involved through the last year and we continue to look forward to new and upcoming events. The Norris FFA Chapter recently been busy with competing in LSE’s (Leadership Skills Events), applying for State Degrees, participating in the activities of FFA Week, and getting ready for the CDE’s (Career Development Events.)

 Alliance FFA Chapter
In December students competed in the District FFA Leadership skills events contest at Chadron. Brittany Andersen placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking and qualified for state. Sage Henderson took first place in Job Interview and qualified for state. Nikki Dunovsky placed fourth in Sr. Public Speaking. Alyssa Dye received sixth place in Sr. Public Speaking. Shelby Andersen and Ashtyn Shrewsbury participated in the FFA Creed, Katherine Aby in Natural Resources speaking. Denielle Bennett, Sage Henderson, Alyssa Dye, Brittany Andersen, Nikki Dunovsky and Annalise Placek placed third in Parliamentary procedure. December also included delivering fruit from our sales, sponsoring a food drive at school where we collected just over 1000 cans of food for the community food pantry, and having a Christmas party. — Full Story » |
C-K FFA Chapter Succeeds at CDE Contest
On Wednesday, February 17th, a portion of the Cody-Kilgore FFA Chapter made their way to Gordon for the CDE contest. The contests the students were participating in were Farm and Ranch Management, Food Science, and Ag Mechanics. The Farm and Ranch Management team, consisting of Connor Barnes, Jana Nollette, Nathan Van Winkle, Dustin Bryant, Ty Trump, and Casey Nielsen, placing 3rd coming in behind 1st place team Sioux County and 2nd place tem Bayard. Nathan Van Winkle took home 2nd place with a purple, Jana Nollette received a red, and Dustin Bryant finished out the C-K individual ribbon in Farm and Ranch Management with a white. The Food Science team consisting of Aria Ford, Jais Ford, Haley Gunnink, Chelsea Fullerton, Sami Schmit, and Kelli Bowlin took a test online and took an unofficial 1st place. Ag Mechanics did the best they could with two team members, Colt Goodwin and Cody Compton. Goodwin placed 3rd in Structures and Compton took 6th in Machinery.

Every year, FFA chapters across the country celebrate National FFA Week. This takes place February 22-26. During National FFA Week, chapters from all over celebrate in their own way. This year, to celebrate FFA week, the Pawnee City FFA Chapter dedicated a special event to take place each day.

South Platte FFA News:
The South Platte FFA Chapter has been very active while traveling to District FFA Events in the last two months. In mid January five of our members loaded up and competed at the district event at Scottsbluff in the Livestock Management Contest where our team placed 2nd, earning a spot for the state competition in Lincoln. The Livestock Management Contestants included: Jennifer Sauers, Pam Radke, Cameron Christensen, Jason Dolezal, and Mikel Dowdy. Then on February 17th four members: Cameron Christensen, J.C. Lanckriet, James McClung, and Kyle Krause competed in the District Farm/Ranch Management Contest in Gordon, NE, where as a team we earned 4th place, with James McClung being our highest team scorer.

Mullen FFA Chapter
This is the Mullen FFA Chapter’s second year. It has been fun, but it has not been without it’s challenges. Everything FFA was new to the students in Mullen. It was a challenge to simply explain, “Just what does FFA do?” I think we heard the age-old question, “What does FFA stand for?” a thousand times. It was interesting getting students into their official dress and making them wear. FFA was something new and many students were on board to both learn about and be a part of Mullen FFA.
Last year was kind of trial by fire. We really had to concentrate on gaining our bearings. For our advisor and for the students it was great challenge learning what FFA was really all about. We focused on becoming familiar with FFA., and what it meant to be a new chapter. We had to learn how each of the contests was run. We also had to learn how to prepare for some of the contests. I think one of our most memorable contests was our first Ag Sales and Service contest in Scottsbluff. We had a group of really energetic students that showed up completely unprepared but we gave it our all and had a great time. We sold the clipboards and pens that we brought with us.
